With help from the Wesley Mission and the
Big Brother Movement, Stepping Stone opened
in October 1989. In 1995 Stepping Stone had enough
funds to buy out partner Wesley Mission and own
the project outright. The allied Stepping
Stone Foundation,
which is a trust, holds the house in perpetuity for
homeless young people.
Over 200 kids have passed through Stepping
Stone since it first started in 1989 – most now have
decent lives and good jobs. This is reflected in a
video in which some of the ex-residents are interviewed.
